Hillsborough County, Fl. once again recieved an “F” grade for air quality from the American
Lung Association for 2017. Their “State of the Air” report analyzed data from official air quality
monitors & detected unhealthy levels of smog and pollution in the area. Inhaling these
pollutants, such as dirt, soot or dust, can aggravate or lead to severe asthma, particularly in
small children and babies. Depending on your lifestyle, there are many products on the

Mosaic’s fertilizer plant in Riverview, FL. produces a lot of waste. That is not unusual for
the phosphate industry. If you drive by US 41 and Riverview Drive, you will notice
massive piles of waste material called phosphogypsum. They are are left over from the
fertilizer manufacturing process and are mildly radioactive, but does not exceed the
EPA’s safe level exposure limits. These piles reach heights of 200 feet.
